From Chris Chandler (really)
Washington, DC
Hi
Chris Chandler here,
You've probably figured out by now that the email you received from me
entitled "I Have NOT Retired" was not really from me. That mean-spirited
post was actually written by my longtime friend and performing partner of
the last two years, David Roe.
I will not dignify his unfair and unfounded charges with a public rebuttal.
It never occurred to me that he might hijack my email account to send out such a poisonous letter to thousands of people — most of whom he has never met. This type of betrayal is hard to fathom. I am shocked, stunned angry and hurt. I hope for his sake as well as mine that it causes no harm to either of us.
I have known David for 10 years and have always appreciated his many
talents. The past two years on the road with him have had their ups (the Oregon Country Fair, the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Islands Folk Festival) and downs (the usual car
trouble, disappointing gigs, etc). There were more downs than usual in the last month and I was not astonished when David said he was leaving the show. I understand, and continue to wish him well.
I know in anger it is hard to exercise restraint. In this era of instant gratification it is all too easy to vent instantly in an email, heedless of the damage it can cause. I forgive David for this lapse of judgment and ask you to do the same.
I felt it necessary to give some response. Pleases forgive me for interrupting my pledge of only bothering you once a month with my emails.
Thanks to all of you who wrote and called immediately to share your support & love and friendship. I look forward to seeing all of you again soon somewhere, and remain your friend and faithful monthly correspondent.
Sadly,
Chandler
