Reign / Little Rays of Sunshine (5:03)
Reign / Little Rays of Sunshine
By Chris Chandler / Paul Benoit
Rain makes me feel less alone.
All rain is, is a cloud- falling apart, and pouring its shattered pieces down on top of you.
It makes me feel good to know I'm not the only thing in this world that falls apart .
It makes me feel better to know other things in nature can shatter.
It’s not that my heart is breaking - it’s that I am falling apart and why should my heart be any different?
Falling apart is great—it's the only chance you get to put yourself back together however you want.
I got a wind up bird don’t care about nothing at all
I got little rays of sunshine in my heart
all those lovable freaks out in the street
Get on up and we can find a place to meet
and anyway... Rain clouds add rich color to an otherwise merely blue sky... I mean, who really wants to feel blue all the time?
Don’t get me wrong... I celebrate the Blues...
I been to Clarksville, Mississippi.
I have a bag of dirt from the corner of Highway 61 and Mississippi 49. Keep it in my glove compartment. But, I didn’t make no deal with the devil... but not for lack of trying. So yea, I celebrate the blues.
Robert Johnson was the king of the blues. And a King’s crown is just a hat that lets the rain in.
Perhaps there is a reason that Rain and Reign sound the same.
Don’t you know
everything is temporary
tomorrows sun is different than to days
holding on isn’t really necessary
just let things go there on way
Rain is the sky visiting the earth to perform a symphony upon tin roofs.
So when the rain begins to fall, it may seem like it has no purpose at all, other than to rain on your parade. It is merely filling its natural destiny. To fall. and to fall. and to fall again.
for that is how it cracks the stone prison walls of suffering.
By falling.
Gently falling.
often, and gently.
Like Tim Mason used to say, gently... like water cracking stone.
All those friends we lost
all those bridges we crossed
all those targets we missed by a mile
and the blind machines dont mean nothing to me
i would give it all just to see you smile
For from its falling, the ground beneath my feet is nurtured... and that is the moment life begins.
I have lived with pain in my life...
Don’t you know
everything is temporary
tomorrows sun is different than to days
holding on isn’t really necessary
all you won you will lose tomorrow
and I only exacerbate the agony when I fail to genuflect
to the heavy perfume of wild magnolias and azaleas...
and I only exacerbate the agony when I fail to genuflect to
the lonesome tune of crickets on humid summer nights...
and I only exacerbate the agony when I fail to genuflect to
to rivers that run like clocks with no numbers...
and I only exacerbate the agony when I fail to genuflect to
the new constellations that appear and re-appear
through the shapes of dark clouds
that pass over head in the night.
Don’t you know
everything is temporary
tomorrows sun is different than to days
holding on isn’t really necessary
just let things go there on way
... and the morning rainbow
that arches its back
having a three-way
with the sun that rises and the rain that falls
and seeps deep in to the earth’s core
so the people in hell
can have a sip of water.
